Title: Dimethylethylacetaldehyde
Post by: Paabo on April 26, 2009, 05:55:26 PM
Can anyone show me a picture of dimethylethylacetaldehyde? I can't find one in google, and when I try to draw it, it looks exactly like 3-3, dimethyl butenal.. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Dear Paabo;

It sounds like a trivial-name for 2,2-Dimethylbutanal.   See number 23 on:

          (IlliniossState University)

It's not:
and when I try to draw it, it looks exactly like 3-3, dimethyl butenal.. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Good Luck!

Ah, it appears I was too hasty when writing "3,3-dimethyl butanal", thanks for catching that. As for "dimethylethylacetaldehyde", I think 2,2-dimethylbutanal fits the description perfectly. I didn't think to move the methyl substituents. Thanks a lot, Argos!
