Title: Wavefunction
Post by: realmjumper99 on April 29, 2009, 08:04:20 PM
I am trying to come up with a question for an original research proposal and I already hit a snag.

I have heard different answers to what the wave function is. My professor taught that the wave function describes the electronic state of the molecule. From that state, you use operators to obtain physically relevant quantities. For instance the Hamiltonian is used to obtain energy.

My question is the following. Does the wave function correspond with any real wave? Like a physical wave. Is there some oscillation?
Is there some frequency that can be calculated for the wave function?
