Post by: s3a on September 08, 2009, 07:22:57 PM
A compound contains only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Combustion of 10.68 mg of compound yields 16.01 mg CO2 and 4.37 mg H2O. The molar mass of the compound is 176.1 g/mol.

a) What is the empirical formula of the compound? [Answer: C3H4O3]

b) What is its molecular formula? [Answer: C6H8O6]

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
