Title: Ferrocenium cation
Post by: -SERS- on October 01, 2009, 04:04:13 AM
In my last lab we did various experiments with ferrocene and analysed similar compounds' 1H-NMR. One was the ferrocenium cation [(η5-C5H5)2Fe]+

Basically, I've been wondering why there's a broad signal at around 29.08ppm. Why is it this shape and at such a high chemical shift?

Hi,

this is due to the paramagnetism of the cation.
