Title: Nitration with H2SO4 catalyst

In the nitration of benzene we use HNO3, and H2SO4 catalyst. The question is, why can't we use something like HCl to help form the nitronium ion?

ok, nevermind. The pKa values provided by my prof were completely off...i searched another pKa table online. Matter cleared.
