Title: What does (aq) mean?

Like in

Ba(s) + 2H2O(l) ---> Ba(OH)2(aq) + H2(g)

I realise that
s: solid
l: liquid
g: gas
but aq?

---

Also, when searching for the solution to one of these equations, what do I search for (in Google)?
Just Ba + H2O or what?

(aq) refers to "aqueous", which means: in water. In your case, you have Ba(OH)₂ in solution in water http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqueous.


As for your search on Google, just try anything that works. Internet is a wild untamed land where order and rigorous classification do not apply. Wikipedia is usually a good start.
You can as well come again to this forum to discuss about anything: sports, gossips, hobbies, jokes,... You can even talk about chemistry here ;D

However, I would always make sure that information from Wikipedia is verified elsewhere, any idiot can scew it up with a bit of malicious editing. Generally the science stuff is more immune than the pop culture references, but not totally.
