Title: What kind of figure is this? (Relating to sugars)
Post by: jkulier on November 29, 2009, 11:31:59 PM
Hi there,

I am just wondering what this kind of figure is called? The one attached is of glyceraldehyde. Where can I read more about this kind of figure (derived from the Fischer projection)?

Thank you in advance.

It's a Fischer projection with the atom labels removed, you can assume the top end is the aldehyde end.

I'm not sure there's a different name for it, it's really just shorthand Fischer, but maybe there is, I don't know.
