Post by: studygirl on July 03, 2005, 09:45:46 PM
hey, okay so the question goes deduce the hybrid oribitals used by nitrogen atoms in the following species.

okay so a) NH3
B)H2N-NH2
C)NO3-
4)HCN
5)N2
6)NN0

I was wondering i was trying these, i am trying to understand it,
but this is what i have so far,

a) sp3
b)sp3 and sp2
c)sp3d
4)sp
5)sp2
6)sp

i base this on its shape.
if wrong please explain how i can do this. thank you

b)sp3 and sp2 ---> Why one is sp3 but another one is sp2?

c)sp3d ---> Do you think N can use 3d orbitals?

5)sp2 ---> N2 should be triple bonded together.
