Title: Fischer equation of...
Post by: jrpestana on July 10, 2005, 06:37:46 PM

Hello:

I understand the following fischer equation will yield isoamyl acetate:
carboxylic acid + alcohol over H2SO4 ester + H2O (sorry, can't figure out how to post constitutional drawings)

but how would I write the fischer equation for preparation of a benzyl isobutyrate and/or isobutyl benzoate?

The equation is essentially the same, you just change the identity of the carboxylic acid and alcohol to fit the ester product you are seeking.
