Title: CMC Mean aggregation number problem.

Hi,

We have just completed a lab finding the cmc of SDS in coomassie brilliant blue. I have completed the first set of graphs finding the cmc and this is worked out great.

The second part of the lab was to work out the mean aggregation number. We used Pyrene as the fluorescence and varying concentrations of Cetylpyridinium and the quencher but the protocol is very unclear on actually how to find the number. It says plot a graph of fluorescence intensity (Ln=Lq/L0) against quencher concentration and work it out from that.

I'm completely confused about what to do next. I hope there is enough information here for you guys to help. I have search in all my texts and all over the internet without a straight forward explanation.

If you google "determination of cmc" (as I just did), the method you want (dye-binding) comes up as the second entry.
