what is meant by "background", "noise"&"cold cathode" in xrf instrument

background : the spectra when no sample in the sample compartment
noise : appears as Chert sample , malfumction (radiation)source , electric components.
cold cathode this because the cathode in the x-ray tube at which electrones hit to give off electrons this produces heat which must be cooled this undergo by rotating cathode
