Title: Please help me with this lab
Post by: nestof3 on August 23, 2005, 12:03:11 PM
 ???

I would like to perform a  lab in which the purpose is to measure the actual masses of a product and compare to predicted masses.

A strontium chloride solution (aq) will be mixed with a sodium carbonate solution (aq) yielding strontium carbonate (s) and sodium chloride (aq).

Water is to be added to strontium chloride hexahydrate, and water is to be added to sodium carbonate monohydrate to form two separate solutions. These are then to be mixed.

My question is:  my supplier only sells the anhydrous form of sodium carbonate, but the lab calls for a hydrate.  Since I am making a solution, does this difference really matter in this lab?

Sincerely, Dawn

Doesn't matter in this case. Just take care of the difference in molar masses.
