what is polarizability, I'm not understanding it all.

Polarizability is the ability for electrons around an atom to be deformed from spherical symmetry. Iodine is more polarizable than fluorine, since iodine's electrons are farther from the nucleus and don't feel the strong columbic attraction as much as fluorine's valence electrons.
