Title: can polysaccharide be seen by uv detector
Post by: HB on January 19, 2011, 03:38:04 PM
I have extracted a polysaccharide from an algae, can it be detected with UV detector or react with any chemical compound so that it can be detected with UV detector or it is impossible

Sugars have very poor chromophores and are not detected well by UV.

Most chromatography of sugars uses either Refracive Index (RI) or evaporative light scattering (ELS) detection.
