Title: Halbach arrays revisited
Post by: Corvettaholic on May 20, 2004, 04:18:21 PM
I was thinking of the Halbach array that scratch introduce me to, and they all seem to made of permanent rare earth magnets. Got me thinking... why not use electromagnets? Think it'd work just the same? You could juice the crap out of electromagnets, and just run cooling sleeves between them to keep the whole contraption from melting. Build the housing out of plastic or something that won't get warped by the magnets, but can handle some heat. Run rubber hoses for cooling lines, and dump the contents of a car battery through it. Anyone have any thoughts on a spherical or cubical electromagnet?
