Title: Nitrile group stability in polyacrylonitrile
Post by: adianadiadi on March 18, 2011, 01:35:30 PM
We know that the nitrile group, -CN is reactive and can undergo hydrolysis in acidic or basic media. But the same group is stable in polyacrylonitrile. What might be the reason. I suspect the non polar nature of the hydrophobic hydrocarbon chain protects these groups. Any other idea or explanation?
