Post by: sophie on September 16, 2005, 04:19:37 PM
please *delete me*!  Doing a sodium iodide titration with 0.05M potassium iodide.  How do I standardize the potassium iodide

You do titration of iodide with iodide?

i would suggest a titration with KMnO4 in acidic environment.

The method is a USP method and titrates sodium iodide with 0.05M potassium iodate VS using amaranth TS as an idicator.  So I should use KMnO4?  How should I go about setting up the standardization?

So you need to standardize iodate solution, not iodide, right? Potassium iodate is a standard substance, to prepare standardized solution you just need to weight KIO3 used for solution preparation.
