Title: Adhesive for NaCl blocks
Post by: JoniDoe on September 19, 2011, 02:44:01 AM
Hello everyone.

I can't get an answer for the following question.
What adhesive will work on two large blocks of salt (from the mine) ?
I couldn't find any info on this subject.
Can there be a chemical approach or only a mechanical one ?

Thanks

Some types of adhesives work by dissolving small amounts of the materials being joined, then evaporating to leave the material behind in the joint. These are particularly useful for plastic pipes.  I suspect such a solvent adhesive might be useful in your problem...

Ok.
I know water dissolves salt, maybe some alcohols, what else ?
I do need it to be rather viscous, something like cement mortar or PVA maybe, because the blocks are not regular (no straight faces) and water gets saturated with salt before getting viscous enough.
