Title: why is it important to maintain equivalent proportion of reagents in aldol cond

why is it important to maintain equivalent proportion of reagents in aldol condensation of benzaldehyde and acetone to form dibenzalacetone?
the product formed has a pale yellow color.why?
pls help me..thanks

So that two acetone molecules don't condensate together.
