Title: Advice on chemical majors and the jobs that come with them.
Post by: Honostjohnny on January 17, 2012, 01:53:37 AM
Hey guys, I am trying to decide what sort of specialization in chemistry to choose for an undergraduate (I am fresh out of HS with 2 years of duel enrollment.) I have narrowed it down to a BS in Forensic biochemistry/analysis tract and a BS in General chemistry and I still have a couple of questions for people who have experience in this area of study.

After reading various form posts about jobs and economy I have come to find that all BS level chemistry degrees give you a "lab tech" job status, while this isn't bad I was curious of the two programs above would be better suited for a wider variety of jobs? Opinions on this are more than appreciated

What sort of work does a forensic biochemist's job entail? I realize that as soon as I read forensics CSI and solving murders pops into my head but that's about it. I haven't a clue what one actually does.

I have considered and probably will try to get a duel major in both (it's only like 8 extra classes on top of a Forensic Biochem BS) and if I have the opportunity to attend any sort of post grad classes I would ideally like to enter into a medical institution.

Your input is/would be much appreciated
