Title: Purifying Sodium Chlorate?
Post by: zker555 on February 23, 2012, 03:27:27 PM
I have recently performed the simple experiment of turning sodium chloride to sodium chlorate through means of electrolysis. The problem is, there are large amounts of iron and carbon contamination from stainless steel electrodes. How do i get rid of these impurities and purify my compound?
Thanks,
Zak

The best way to purify a soluble salt is by crystallization.  Fractional crystallization may be needed to remove the residual sodium chloride.  Yield may not be very great.
