hello...i think a forum should be added for different departments....such as chemical engineering....mechanical etc. This would make it easier to talk to other students studying the same think as yourself

Not yet. There is just not enough people discussing more specialized subjects. Such forums will be dead most of the time.

amanda, are you a chemical engineer too? I know there a few chemical engineers around. Our main academic interest here is actually physical chemistry, isn't it? Transport phenomena and Thermodynamics are the usual Pain In The Arse.
I don't think we have enough chemical engineers who frequent this forum to sustain the need for a specialised chemical engineering section. Frankly speaking, I am not the best person to solve chemical engineering problems. I am just a 2nd year undergraduate.

Most chemical engineering problems are either heavily math related or physics/physical chemistry related. You can ask your thermo/phy or any physics questions in the physical chemistry forum. As for the math questions, you can ask them also in the phy chem forum....we just don't have enough staff members of the physics/advanced math (calculus, diff. equations, lin algebra, multivariable) to handle the anticipated demand if such a math subforum were created, I would imagine.

I think the math in QM is even more complicated..
to sum it all, we try to help each other as much as possible, given our constraint on human resource.
