I had a question on my exam that asked which second ionization energy would be greater for Na or Mg
Mg:1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 Zeff = 1.5
Na:1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1 Zeff = 1
Since the Zeff is lower in Na, will there be less energy required in Na?
Thanks

Will Zeff be the same after removing an electron?

Which sounds more familiar between Na2+ and Mg2+?
