Title: component of town gas
Post by: jadelamlam on July 31, 2012, 03:41:04 AM
Here is the composition of town gas(from my textbook):
H2 49%
CH4 28.5%
CO2 19.5%
CO 3%
CH4 is used for combustion
How about H2?Why should it be added into town gas?It will cause an explosion if there is a fire.
And what about CO And CO2?Why should they be added?
Thx a lot.

Go research how town gas (coal gas) is made.  Hydrogen etc are not added to it they are all made together.

But why they don't remove them for other purposes? Can methane be the only component?

Methane is the main compoment of natural gas. Now, as you can see from wikipedia link so called town gas is in fact the natural gas so your problem is rather virtual.
