Title: face centred cubic
Post by: luketapis on August 12, 2012, 03:35:05 PM
A metal crystallises in the face centred cubic (fcc) system and the edge of the unit
cell is 503 pm. Calculate the atomic radius of the metal.

Ok, so It is not so difficult, but I have one question. In primitive cubic r=1/2 d (d-diagonal of cubic) because there is 1 atom in cubic, in bcc r=1/4 d, but what is r in fcc?

Check out the explanation for problem 1. http://www.chemteam.info/Liquids&Solids/WS-fcc-AP.html
