Title: Acetylcholine in the somatic nervous system
Post by: mycotheologist on September 01, 2012, 07:47:04 PM
I read that acetylcholine is the main neurotransmitter in the peripheral nervous system and it is the neurotransmitter involved in voluntary muscle contraction. From what I read, ligand gated ion channels are the most rapid responding receptors. Would I be right in assuming that nicotinic ACh receptors are the main receptors involved in voluntary muscle contraction (seeing as muscarinic receptors are metabotropic)?
