Title: Organic synthesis polymer analysis

We're making Nylon 6.6 and we need to chemically validate that our product is in fact Nylon 6.6. Though, we don't know what chemical analysis we can do to prove this.
What can we do?

What methods of analysis do you know?

I would suggest that you,

1. depolymerize by hydrolysis; this is the reverse of the polymerization reaction

2. analyze the products by (ideally) GC-MS as the trimethylsilyl (TMS) ethers; you should get EI mass spectra that are consistent with 1,6-diaminohexane (A) and adipic acid (B) (as their TMS derivatives).  You will also have oligomeric species present, e.g. A-B-A, B-A-B etc

3. you already have A and B as standards; prepare their TMS derivatives and analyze by GC-MS to confirm identities by retention times AND mass spectra
