Title: 5-coordinate and octahedral d-orbital splitting
Post by: CHEKAL on January 28, 2013, 05:38:21 PM
Am i right in thinking:

I have a VO(acac)2 complex, 5 coordinate, 1 free d electron, if i am to react this with a lewis base to become a 6-coordinate complex this will increase the electrons by 2 hence there will be three electrons in the d-orbital splitting? Will this mean due to the new octahedral splitting, there are more transitions as there are 3 unpaired electrons able to be excited in a d-d transition so the uv-vis spectrum will be more intense?

thanks
