Title: Platinum Oxide

Just a quick question re hydrogenation catalysts for anyone with experience using them, is there a performance difference between platinum oxide and platinum oxide hydrate? I'll be buying some soon and while the price difference isn't huge I'm just wondering is one better suited to different substrates than the other.

There is no difference with hydrogenation as you form water when the PtO₂ is reduced to platinum black in the reaction. The non-hydrated form is for other Pt catalysed reactions where anhydrous conditions are required.
