Title: KNO3 purity
Post by: Fe$phi on August 27, 2013, 08:53:24 PM
I made potassium nitrate from a cold pack and diet salt. I am curious as to how pure this is. I do not own a thermometer able to reach 334 degrees to test it like that. I would like to know some ways to test it for purity and to purify it.

What equipment do you have
precise scales?
graduated cylinder?
titration equipment?
etc.
Do you have solvents or chemicals
ethanol
pure water
glycerine
etc.

Did you check WIKI for properties that might be useful?

You can try recrystallization.
