Title: Finished making the Periodic table of Isotopes
Post by: Mitch on March 10, 2006, 03:13:31 AM
I actually built it off site. But, you can view it in the menu to your left or through this link. :) http://www.isotope-table.com/

Its huge  :o

3MB of starting page download? I thought it is broken ;) And in a way it was, see the picture (Opera).

There is no legend.

I think the idea (of one page) is faulty - perhaps a mapped picture will work? With links to subpages? Or some kind of navigation similar to maps with arrows for scrolling? Right now it is very difficult to navigate.

The page should load in real time now, instead of downloading for 3Megs first; let me know if it doesn't. Also, the table aligning issue should now be fixed. I know you are not a fan of big downloading webpages. But, if I'm on a 56k modem and I don't mind... :P

I'm glad you weren't around when I had all the avatars of the avatar gallery in one page. :P Now they can be found here www.avatar-gallery.com in short crisp pages. But, opera probably sees something wrong with those tables too. arrggg....

By the way opera has to be the worse webrowser ever, it doesn't let any of my bad html-ing fly.

Seems it is still wrong on both accounts.

That's not me only, such are recommendations - main page should be small and load fast. If not, most people will be not patient to wait, they will go elsewhere. That's marketing :)

No, it looks OK.

holy cripes it IS huge.

it must have took u like ages to compile all that info, let alone figure out the html coding for all that.

i got the same problem with IE as borek did with opera, how strange. on firefox it works superbly.

If by 'King' you mean best chance to have something use ActiveX to install software on your machine without making you go through the hassle of giving permission :)

Okay the table looks good in ie now, and I imagine it now looks okay in opera. Since the page loads dynamically in firefox and anyone that doesn't use firefox is crazy, I'm going to keep it this way. I'll put some warnings on the website though.- :P

I didn't compile anything, I just wrote a script that read through 2 files that had all that information in them.

IE is a program to browse the web from your computer. And vice versa.

But I wasn't referring to security issues (this time). As a part time webmaster and webdeveloper (mainly for my own needs) I passionately hate IE for its inability to properly render CSS pages. When I am creating new layout at least 25% of my time is wasted because pages that render correctly in Opera and Firefox are rendered different in IE and I have to modify code specially for IE, or I have to reject ideas that don't work in IE.

And Microsoft is a member of W3C - so IE should conform with all recommendations. Shitheads.

My only problem with opera, is it takes so bloody long to load a webpage, I tend to use I.E for sites i trust , such as here, but for random surfing, or..erm..places that need a little more security, I use opera.

Firefox is superb in all ways to except ActiveX to IE.

I love the tabbed viewing.

That table is MASSIVE. Have you though of a slightly smaller version.

I like it though.

Firefox is superb in all ways to except ActiveX to IE.

This sentence is confusing, but just in case you aren't aware:

Not having ActiveX is a HUGE advantage for Firefox.  ActiveX has terrible security issues, you want to make SURE that your browser does not support it.  ActiveX is not a feature (of IE), it is a flaw.
