Title: balanced titration reaction
Post by: intelibp1600 on March 21, 2006, 08:31:48 PM
Consider the titration of 25.0mL of 0.010M Sn2+ by 0.050M Tl3+ in 1M HCl, using Pt and saturated calomel electrodes to find the end point.

1) Write the balanced titration reaction
2) Write two different half-reactions for the indicator electrode.
3) Write two different Nernst equations for the net cell reaction.

Appreciate if someone can help me out. thanks!

You must attempt these yourself first and show us your working out, then we will gladly help. :)

I don't think i'm doing this right.

1) Sn2+ + Tl3+-  -> Sn4+ + Tl+
2) Sn4+ +2e- =>Sn2+ E0 = 0.139 V
    Ti3+ + 2e- => Tl+ E0 = 0.77

not sure if these are correct. the last one, i'm unsure

1) Sn2+ + Tl3+-  -> Sn4+ + Tl+
correct!

Just be caeful: you made a typing mistake (you wrote Ti instead of Tl)
