Title: Changes in IUPAC recommendations
Post by: Archer on June 25, 2014, 09:21:35 AM
Hi All,

I am having some trouble keeping up with current IUPAC rules.

For example

NC(Cc1ccccc1)COC

My understanding is that this would be 1-methoxy-3-phenylpropan-2-amine under current IUPAC recommendations.

However. it is not uncommon to see this written as 1-methoxy-3-phenyl-2-propylamine.

Was "prefix-2-propylamine" (in the above context) ever recommended by IUPAC (i.e. when the blue book was first published) or is this something which is just accepted when it is used incorrectly.
