Title: Organic or Biochem Ph.D?
Post by: Averri on August 09, 2014, 07:05:46 PM
Hey guys!

I'm a biochem major and I'm seriously considering going for my Ph.D. I'm interested in the pharmaceutical industry and food chemistry industry, specifically working in lab doing R&D.

Knowing this is my area of interest, I'm having trouble deciding what specific field to go for in graduate school: organic chemistry or biochemistry. I would love any wisdom the forum has to offer on the fields or suggestions on which grad school program would best fit my interest. Which would be more applicable to a career in those industries? Is one more in demand than the other?

Thanks!

well you can do R&D with both. Usualy team of ppl is involved in this kind of stuff. Someone makes the compounds, someone else tests them for their biological activity etc..
