Title: does Polybutylene Teraphthalate (PBT) contain Teflon

hello

I'm new to this forum and i don't know much about this topic so i apologize if my question may seem a little obvious.

i have a chemical question and couldn't find anywhere on line that will help with my question

I'm looking for light bulbs that do not contain Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE), as when PTFE is heated creates fumes (Teflon)

i found a bulb that contains Polybutylene Teraphthalate (PBT)

I need to know if PBT is the same as  PTFE. does PBT also release Teflon when heated?

First its not the same
Teflon is Polytetraflourineethylene -[CF2-CF2]n- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene
PBT is -[OOC-C6H4-COO-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2]- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polybutylene_terephthalate

Teflon you have as a coating on the skillet. What kind of fumes you talking about.

I have heard fluorescent light bulbs (those ones that are all spiraled together) may contain small amounts of teflon which can produce fumes. I cannot speak to the validity of this at all. But I can say this -- why not get LED lights instead? These are far more energy efficient (consume less electricity) than both fluorescent and incandescent light bulbs, they generate far less heat, will practically last forever, and very likely have no PTFE. A few bucks more but totally worth it.
