Today we had another experiment, adding mg to Cu unknown which either be Copper (II) acetate. H2O or Copper (II) sulfate . 5H2O.
There are also gas evolved .
Mg(s) + Cu(CH3COO)2 --> Mg(CH3COO)2 (aq) + Cu (s)
Mg(s) + CuSO4 --> MgSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)
Again, I can't figure out what the gas are . CO2? or SO2?
Sorry to ask so many questions but i really do not understand. Hope one of you can help me.
thanks

it could be H2O(g) if you heated it quite a bit before reacting

no we didn't heat anything.
