Fermentation is suitable for ethanol only. Can"t we use fructose or any other sugar for the preparation of other alcohol??
-
Many fermentations do not produce ethanol at all. It depends on the organism. IMO fermentation is more usefully defined as the anaerobic catabolism of a carbohydrate.

Also, many labs are working on creating genetically modified microbes that will ferment gasoline products. The work of Jay Keasling (http://keaslinglab.lbl.gov/) comes to mind.
