Title: acetanilide synthesis and identification
Post by: ABA2015 on October 01, 2014, 01:42:38 PM
hi all
I want to synthesize acetanilidie by aniline, anhydride  acetic, acid acetic and zinc powder, I know the acid acetic is the catalyst of the reaction but what is the role of Zinc here?
and is there any special test for identifying acetanilide or not?
thanks :D

Zinc is probably relevant if you are using anilinium chloride.

no there is not any chloride ion in the reaction medium
