Title: Elephant Tooth Paste :)
Post by: jarrod0987 on December 24, 2014, 07:35:24 PM
I plan to do the Elephant Toothpaste demo for a friend and his family at new years. The kids one is boring. I want to do the good one. I plan to use the freeze concentration method on some 3% peroxide to make it stronger. I have found Sodium Iodide at Ebay but it is expensive. The clear Iodine at the drug store says it is Ammonium and Potassium Iodide I believe. Is there any way to use or refine either the clear or traditional drugstore iodine tinctures to use as the catalyst in this experiment? Also....I understand what is left over is only O2 and soap etc. Is there any special clean up procedures I need to know? I don't want little fingers playing in the foam when it's hot obviously...but I'm worried there may somehow be residual strong H202. Seems unlikely, but I feel like I should ask anyways.

Thank You.

You can use manganese dioxide instead of potassium iodide. This can easily be extrated from alkaline batteries.
