Title: Raising Horseshoe Crabs/Marine Animals
Post by: constant thinker on April 04, 2006, 08:59:52 PM
Has anyone had any expierence with raising horseshoe crabs or any marine animals?

If you have can you give me tips on care and maintenance or the tank/animals.

Thanks to anyone who responds. I have already tried google, but the information I've found has been a tad bit sketchy, and I'm looking for any tips or tricks.

I always look at this site to find info on my tanks:

http://www.adelaideaquariums.com.au/new/main.html

However I have freshwater fish not marine, but I think this site has info on both. They have a really cool shop in the city (Adelaide that is, so a little inconvenient for you I guess, LOL).

Have fun, I love aquariums.

Hm, horseshoe crabs are interesting little creatures, not ones I would choose to keep in an aquarium though, as once they release eggs, I imagine theres going to be trouble, as their eggs contain tetrodotoxin, its a sort of similar situation to keeping Palythoa genus corals, theyre fine, until one gets damaged and releases its internal fluids into your aquarium tank, in which case, your'e buggered, and everything dies.

How have you amassed such a large knowledge of toxins and how they work, Limpet? Did you take toxicology in college or something?

I'll just remember to keep males and females separated or just buy only one sex if possible. I don't think there will be prime mateing conditions though, which is a good thing.
