Title: Organic synthesis terminology
Post by: Rutherford on February 24, 2015, 10:31:37 AM
I have some trouble understanding the meaning of the one-group and two-group disconnections. Why is the disconnection of an amide to acyl halide and amine a one-group, but the disconnection of and beta hydroxy amine (to epoxide and amine) a two group disconneciton?

Im not sure but I think the difference is that you have one functional group in amide but two in the betha-hydroxy amine (hydroxy and amino group). I checked the Warren book but its not clear to me either

Yeah, I can't find a straightforward definition.
