Title: Naming a Compound with Multiple Functional Groups
Post by: e.d.kim on April 15, 2015, 10:27:09 AM
Hey there!

How should I name this compound?

I remember that the group with the highest priority dictates the main chain. In this case it is acetate. But there are several acetate groups attached to the galactose ring. So, what should I do?

Here is my attempt:

N-cinnamylidene-beta-D-galactapyranosylamino-2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetate. So, I thought if I have four acetate groups, why not to have four main chains. How does it sound?

Thanks.

Well you missed out the phthalimido group and the β-lactam!

As drawn, the sugar portion is L-galacto configured, not D.
