Title: Polymyxin E

Hi guys,

I have spent ages looking for some information regarding the chemical synthesis of polymyxin E and have found the most basic of information (i.e. fermentation with bacillinus colistinus). If you guys could give me some help on where to look or any help at all that'd be amazing.

Where did you search?

A quick search of major publishers' websites uncovers:

I've not read these articles, but they (and references therein) may be of interest.

Do you have access to a chemistry database (SciFinder, Reaxys etc.)?

Hi Dan!

Yup I had seen those articles and utilised rexays along with scifinder. However, nothing seems to talk about large scale synthesis, which I believe involves bacillus colistinum.  ???

It would have been helpful to post what you had already found.  Do you mean chemical synthesis, or do you mean biosynthesis (synthesis involving an anabolic pathway)?

Sorry about that, I do apologise. The biosynthetic pathway would be the best bet!!

When looking at industrial production of colistin (polymyxin E) I'm assuming no drug company would ever discuss the processes that they utilise to develop the drug? I've looked at a few and have stumbled mainly on leaflets.

When I was in the industry we very rarely patented our manufacturing process. Perhaps only some aspects were disclosed, but in the main everything vital was kept secret.
