Title: Are there any other methods to remove dioxane out of solution except rotovap?
Post by: ratima001 on August 25, 2015, 02:31:59 AM
I will need to remove dioxane form the solution. However, if I don't use rotary evaporator, Can i use open air-drying instead? Are there any other methods to eliminate dioxane form mixture or solid precipitate without using vacuum pump?

Thank you

You may be able to wash it out of a non polar solution with water. If your product is ether soluble, you could dissolve the sample in a relatively large amount of ether and wash a few times with water.

I say "may" because I have attempted to do this before, but with limited success. I routinely use biphasic extraction to remove other water-soluble solvents (e.g. DMF, DMSO, ethanol etc.), but always I have emulsification problems with dioxane. It gets there in the end, but generally I find it easier to remove most of it by rotavap before biphasic extraction.
