Title: Solubility of perfluoro alkyl compounds, oxidation etc.
Post by: Reddart on September 02, 2015, 03:10:21 PM
I'm planning on oxidizing 1H,1H,2H,2H-Perfluoro-1-decanol with PCC in DCM. I have no experience with long fluoro chains, so was wondering if I may run into solubility problems with this reaction, or any of the future planned transformations I have in mind.

Fluorine substitution tends to increase hydrophobicity. I can't see why DCM would cause any issues at that level of fluoridation. We use a perfluorononyl methyl ether for a particular application which is compatible with a number of solvents, even protic solvents provided they are not wet.
