Replies to PM’s

Hi
_  I have already had a couple of PM’s . I was notified of them per Email. In those Emails i was given a link for replying. I followed the link and found a message stated that i could not reply to PM’s. Could I have some clarification here please?
( I mainly just wanted to respond and say thanks for the PM’s I had got.  I do not intend taking things out of the Forum Thread )
