Title: Electrolysis Science Experiment

Hello, I am doing a science fair project at my high school and need some help with the chemistry. I am testing to see which electrolyte produces the most hho gas. The electrolytes I am using are Sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, potassium carbonate and control (distilled water). I was wondering if I could get some help with the chemistry to explain how electrolysis works and what part each electrolyte I have chosen has. How does the water separate? What chemical equations take place.

Yes I have done some research but wanted to know why Sodium hydroxide... etc is a good electrolyte. How do i calcualted the conductivity of the water with the added electrolyte?
