Title: Heating method
Post by: kamikaze762x39 on February 18, 2017, 05:38:48 PM
Has anyone tried a solder bath over a bunsen burner or torch for heating?  I hammered a steel ladle until it was only slightly curved, trying to match it to my boiling flask as best as I could.  I have a propane torch head connected via hose which I set in cement to stand upright.  I took the ladle I hammered and filled it with plain 95/5 solder via torch and placed my flask (with some water in the bottom) in the molten solder.  It formed around the flask.

Now when I need to heat, I just place the flask in the disk atop wire mesh and turn on the heat.  It liquefies, giving perfect thermal contact and distribution, doesn't disperse heat like sand, no smoke from an oil bath... this may be the perfect media for heating.  I have used it twice thus far with no issues.  Does anyone think I'm asking for breakage?
