Title: BF3 etherate
Post by: fedora_1000 on June 05, 2017, 09:23:53 PM
I have the pleasure of working with BF3OEt2 on a 100 mmol scale.  Are there practical safety considerations I should be worried about, and is borosilicate safe when dry?

Yes, it is quite water reactive and very corrosive.   I would get some to help you the first time who has used it before, and also start with a small scale first to makre sure it works OK, then scale up no more than 3-5 times larger at a time.   I have tried doing large reactions without that a few times, and it often creates a poor reaction if you don't know what to expect on that scale.
