Title: Doubt in fittig reaction's mechanism
Post by: yash on June 11, 2017, 12:39:47 PM
Now i came about this fittig reaction which involves coupling of aryl halides.
Now the book i have mentions that it has identical mechanism as wurtz reaction for alkanes,in which 2 symmetrical alkyl halides are coupled to give alkanes.
My query is when the homolytic fission occurs in aryl halides, the carbon goes in sp hybridisation,But clearly a sp carbon atom cannot be part of a ring since sp carbon atom has linear geometry. This doesnt pose a problem in wurtz reaction, but it does in aryl halides.
Help would be appreciated.Thanks :D
